TPO Roofing

TPO membranes are more common in industrial and commercial buildings. TPO can also be found on some manufactured RVs. It helps keeps the elements off the insulation and prevents mold from growing within the fiberglass. TPO is effective at withstanding to the elements of heat and water and provide a more efficient solution on saving energy.

The elements of TPO membranes are single-ply rubber. The layers of rubber are built up over time, retaining a weather resistant look much like tar and gravel roofs. But in Florida there is a lot of sun in the summer and rubber can expand quite easily in the heat, so it means that there is need for routine inspection and maintenance. TPO membranes can last 15 to 20 years given the condition of the roof.

TPO membranes can withstand environmental elements such as extreme heat or extreme cold. However, this does pose a problem with thinning of the liner and shrinkage overtime, which is why TPO roofs need to be inspected every 3 to 6 months of the year to further repair or add other forms of insulation to keep the roof lasting overtime. But most TPO roofs can be maintenance free for up to ten years with general inspections and routine maintenance.

TPO membranes also allow movement to building structures. TPO is environmentally friendly because it does not emit fossil fuels like tar and gravel roofs. All TPO membranes are made of rubber and can be recycled. Its membranes come in a variety of monochrome colors: black, gray, or white. Gray and white TPO membranes can deflect heat from the sun while black absorbs the sun’s rays.

TPO is effective at preventing algae development with cooper and zinc added to the lining before being installed. But routine cleanup of debris and other materials can help the roof last a lot longer. However, should your TPO roof have algae, a mix of one-part water and one-part bleach can detest the blooms from further developing.
